About
Welcome! – ¡Bienvenidos!
Global Mariposa is a website about me, Jacquelyn Koehler.
Mariposa is the Spanish word for butterfly which symbolizes change, freedom, and beauty. Global refers to the impact I want to make with my life. I am a citizen of the world and want to learn and try new things all over.
I am a global mariposa – flitting around the world to find new experiences that will mold me into the socially conscious and well-rounded person I strive to be.
My Buterfly Effect
Have you heard of the butterfly effect? In a recent internet search on butterflies, I came across a Canadian youth program that uses this theory to describe the potentially global impact of helping hands:
“There’s a theory that says if a butterfly flaps its wings in one part of the world, for example in South Africa, the air disturbance caused by that one flap has enough force to trigger a storm somewhere else in the world a month later, for instance, in Nunavut, Canada. ….Imagine the power of your ideas and action to help improve the quality of life in the world’s…countries!”
I want to cause a “butterfly effect” that improves the well being of those without the resources and capabilities of achieving it on their own.

Hi Jacquelyn,
I’m writing to you because I’m going to be FSD’s intern at La Estrategia de Caracol starting in September. I came across your blog and have been reading your updates for the last couple weeks. Great posts and beautiful pictures! I looks like you’re having a really good experience down there.
FSD just confirmed my placement yesterday, so I figured it was time to get in touch. In the phone interview Anne mentioned that our internships may overlap for a week or so. Our orientation begins on September 13, but I’ll be arriving in BA three weeks before then to work on my Spanish. Maybe we can meet up sometime before you leave?
